AFK

Project

Three communities near Munich, namely Aschheim, Feldkirchen and Kirchheim, joined forces in 2008 and formed AFK-Geothermie GmbH for the first cross-community geothermal project in Germany. These communities pushed the development and exploratory investigations for using geothermal heat to supply public and private consumers in five villages. Erdwerk GmbH provided prior and detailed geothermal studies, including seismic data interpretation, and a drilling program, assisted with authorisation procedures under the mining and water laws and with the tendering procedure, provided project management and cost calculation/management during the drilling operations, and assisted with the permit procedure for long term use for the next 50 years.

The district heat station (situated in Aschheim) has been supplying heat since December 2009 when the submersible electric pump was installed in production well Aschheim Th1.
